First grants from 2020/21 Digital Government Partnership Innovation Fund announced

Nine innovation projects across 6 government entities have been awarded grants from the 2020/21 Digital Government Partnership Innovation Fund to progress digital and data innovation in the public sector.

Funding recipients

The Ministry for the Environment, Ministry of Health, Stats NZ, NZ Police, Public Sector Commission and the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) have all been awarded significant grants from the Innovation Fund.

Further awards may be made in 2021.

A cross-agency panel selected the projects based on their innovative vision, potential to produce positive system outcomes, and their alignment with the Strategy for a Digital Public Service.

Collaboration as part of a unified public service

The fund is not just about getting innovative ideas up and running. It also provides valuable insights around where system innovation is taking place.

“It’s a unique opportunity for agencies to build skills and share experiences while testing new ideas for joining government up behind the scenes.”

Colin Holden, GM System Strategy and Initiatives for Digital Public Service branch at DIA
