Government data content standardisation
The GCDS is working across government to co-design, develop, and implement short data content standardisation.
Data content standardisation helps to maximise the value of data, inform policy and investment decisions, and enable efficient information sharing and data reconciliation.
The data content requirements establish a consistent way for collecting, formatting, recording, and/or storing information across government.
First approved data content requirements
Approved requirements:

Co-designing requirements across government
The publication of the content requirements is the culmination of a 2-year project, involving collaboration across government.
Government agencies will drive the implementation, and the timeframes will be driven by their needs. The GCDS and Stats NZ will continue to provide support and advice.
The next round of Data Content Requirements have been identified by the Community of Practice. They include:
- Location
- Phone number
- Iwi affiliation.
Work on the new requirements have already begun.
